May 30, 2012 News-ish 12 Comments

Three weeks ago, I announced my intention to find a new job. I wanted to solve problems, and work for an awesome company (“make good money” is always understood).

Since then, I talked to my Twitterverse, contacted a few folks in my network directly, studied, and went to a couple of interviews.

Post-mortem of Interview at place #1: “This is EXACTLY the kind of job I’m NOT looking for.”

Post-mortem of Interview at place #2: “This is EXACTLY the kind of job I’m looking for!”

And I got the new job.

Technically, it’s just a contract for a company that provides hosting and technology services. The client is very near my house, and they have a plethora (yes, a plethora) of juicy issues for a hungry DBA like myself.  And I’m telling you…I might just fall in love with contracting/consulting again.  I get in every morning and look forward to the day’s work. People listen, and if they don’t, they’re accountable for the aftermath…an excellent change of pace.

I’ll post more and answer questions (if any) as needed, but that’s the quick update!

  10. Congratulations, Jen!

I am basically on a similar situation. I am not necessarily looking to make more money but looking for a better job that will put me to the next level of my career. I recently wrote about my failed job interview in my blog (it’s titled “Are you ready?”, in case you like to read).

    Congratulations :)
I’m happy that you like the new job.
