Hit Fast Forward: Converting and deploying DTS packages

This one is just a quick shout-out to Pragmatic Works, and to Sean.

Pragmatic Works made DTS xChange, which I used to convert about 40 SQL Server 2000 DTS packages to SSIS. Seriously, I just had to run the thing, and update a few data connections.  YMMV, of course, but I was really happy not to have to do all that by hand.

Sean made his Deploying SSIS Packages with Powershell session, posted the video and the code, and reminded me of it when I whined about mentioned having to deploy the 40+ new packages by hand. Because, you know, your choices are either (A) individually add each and every package in Management Studio, or (B) individually add each and every package to a BIDS project, and then deploy that as a set.  Fun, right? But, one of Sean’s Powershell scripts just loops through all the DTSX files in a directory, and deploys them to the server.

So. Freaking. Easy. And that’s what I like: things that make ridiculously tedious tasks into ridiculously easy tasks.

Happy days,
