So earlier this week I talked about
job hunting and deciding between offers. I’m going to interrupt myself for a moment to say that “deciding between offers” reminds me forcefully of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof:
Perchik: Money is the world’s curse.
Tevye: May the Lord smite me with it. And may I never recover.
Poor me, poor me, too many choices! Anyway. Today I chose the job that offered better compensation, and more importantly – in this case, where the two opportunities were so similar – that displayed more support of my professional development.
A lot of people tweeted to congratulate me, and to find out about the new gig. I can’t tell you much: It’s a SQL developer/DBA gig with KidKraft, a kid’s furniture and toy company. They seem cool, they have some cool tech and opportunity, it’s a definite move up for me. Sorry I couldn’t say something more exciting, like “Mircosoft booth babe”, or “God of All Evangalism at PragmaticWorks” (let’s keep going: “Her Majesty’s Product Tester for Red-gate”…”Minister of Forum Stabbiness at SQLServerCentral.com”…), but I’m going to be doing what I want to do: solid database work that’s going to make me a better SQL professional.
MOTHAFUCKIN WORD UP!
Ahem. That is all.
Congrats! I hope it turns out to be everything you want it to be!
Very big congratulations.
Being able to chose with a bit of heart and feeling …. marvelous.
No doubt you’ll become an enrichment for that company.
Congrats Jen. Good luck at the new gig. I’m sure you’ll want to let your kids help with product testing over there as well.
I’m already looking at how to apply the company discount for xmas presents…
