I just had
a couple of interviews, and then a job offer at about 20% less than I’d expect, and a good 25-30% under ideal. I was really interested in this company, and everything was looking great until the numbers.
The numbers looked very, very bad. Here is the email I ended up sending:
Dear ___,
I’m going to have to decline the offer. I really appreciate your time, but we’re just not going to be able to make the numbers work.
Thanks again,
Jen McCown
Here’s the email that I really wanted to send, but saw no point in being rude…after all, they hadn’t done anything really really insulting or stupid:
Dear ___,
Fucking seriously? I made 5k more than that at my FIRST DATABASE GIG EVAR, about a zillionty years ago. Since then I’ve gained experience, knowledge, street cred, and a fucking MVP. Seriously, you should see the size of my MVPness…it’s huge, and I show it to everybody.
You’re a contracting company. I KNOW there’s a lot of room between what you pay your people and what you make off of it. Good fucking luck finding anyone decent at that price range, seriously. Christ almighty…
Sincerely,
No Fuckin Way
That’s just venting…again, business is business. No hard feelings, company-who-didn’t-offer-enough.
Now, to go make my zillions…
-Jen
No wonder I can’t find a job. I always send the 2nd letter.
